I remember traveling in Budapest and it taking nearly a week to realize that, if you’re using your hand to ask for one of something in Hungary, you should use your thumb. If you put up your pointer finger to represent how many of something you want, you’ll get two in return, your middle finger, three, and so on. In the same vein, it’s somewhat surprising that people tend to count money in distinctive ways depending on their nationality.
